Food and Snacks when Flying with Kids

Be sure to plan ahead for bringing food and snacks in your carry-on.  Airlines do not provide an abundance of food during flights.

When traveling with infants and toddlers, airlines also may not have food that is age appropriate.  You are better off bringing your own food to supplement whatever you are lucky enough to receive from your airline.

Your specific food selections will vary greatly depending on the age and preferences of your child.

For small infants you may plan to bring a supply of baby food and eating utensils.  Disposable bibs are great to have on hand.  If your child is on formula, you should bring enough to get you to your destination.

Toddlers do well with some healthy snack foods that they can eat such as dry cereal, dried fruit/raisons.  The specifics of what you bring are less important than your focusing on items low in sugar.  It is not advisable to load children up with sugar while confined to an airplane.

Some airlines have enough foresight to serve small children their meals in advance of serving adults on the plane.  This allows parents time to feed children before their own meals arrive.  Some airlines also may have special child meals available.  These may be available at request or the airline may require that you order them in advance when booking tickets.  You can always check with your airline to determine meal options that you will have for your child.

The FlyingRugrats.com
 Flying Kids Mission

As parents, we are responsible for molding our precious babies into well rounded adults who have an appreciation for the variety of opportunities that they have available to them as they grow and develop as individuals.  Exposing children to varying geographical locations and cultures around the world is an important teaching method that many parents have the option to use for developing generations of culturally aware future leaders who have childhood experiences that help them understand and personally relate to global issues.  It is the mission of Flying Rugrats to arm parents with information about flying with children, toddlers or infants strategies in an effort to dispel fear or apprehension about family travel so that families may travel freely and better educate our future world citizens through positive travel experiences.
