Potty Training Toddlers when Flying with Kids

If you are in the process of potty training your toddler, think about whether you really want to continue training during an airplane flight.  Do you really think it is worth dealing with the result of a failure in this area?

It might be better for you and your toddler if you take a break from potty training during flight.  Go ahead and use a diaper or pull-up.  Doing so can relieve stress on both you and on your child.

Some children have delicate little egos and a potty training failure might be upsetting to them.  Trying to cope with the added complexities of airplane environments, which include “fasten your seatbelt" signs, might put your child at an unfair disadvantage, resulting in embarrassment or confidence issues.

In addition, consider using a pull-up during flights if your child is potty trained but cannot make it through the whole night when sleeping.  This is important especially during long trips that may include your child sleeping for part of a flight.  You probably would not want your child to wake up with wet clothes and a wet seat.

Quick Tips:

  • Take a break from potty training

  • Use a pull-up to relieve stress on a child that still has occasional accidents.
