Car Seat Installation when Flying with Kids
If you thread the seat belt through the car seat and attempt to fasten it with the release lever facing up (the normal position if you were using it as a seat belt for a person) then you might have trouble. Due to the release lever design for airplane seatbelts, attaching in such a way can result in the release lever getting wedged against the car seat after you tighten the seat belt. This can make it near impossible to get the seat belt to release and result in difficulty removing the car seat when you arrive at your destination. If your car seat is constructed in such a way that you run into the above difficulty, there is a trick that you can use when installing the seat that may resolve the problem. Steps for installation:
This method results in the release lever of the seat belt facing away from the car seat in the direction of the airplane seat back. Because of the shapes of most car safety seats and airplane seat backs, there should be enough room to reach in and pull the seat belt release lever without difficulty.
