Resources for Extra Assistance when Flying with Kids
Fellow passengers nearby might help you out by holding your baby and giving you a break. Sometimes this is called adopting a grandparent. There are many people on flights who love small children but don’t have any of their own. There may also be people on your flight that have small children but must travel frequently for work and be separated from them. If such a person happens to be sitting near you, it may be mutually beneficial for them to help you a little by playing with or holding your child for a little while during the flight. Make friends with the passengers that are sitting near you and your child on the plane. If you are lucky, other passengers might enjoy helping you out with your child. You will not know about their willingness if you do not make a little effort to get to know them. Don’t shy away from offers for help or hesitate to ask for help if you see someone that seems charmed by your child. There are also many flight attendants that are particularly good with children. They may come up and talk with your child. They may even give your child a toy or small object to play with. Intuitive flight attendants that like children are priceless during any airplane journey with small children.
